Just How important is the Alkaline Lifestyle?

Imagine living in a world where everyone is healthy. The average lifespan is almost 100 years. Are you able to comprehend what this would be like?

Probably not unless you are familiar with the concept of alkalinity and how an alkaline lifestyle could have a major impact on your health!  There is no way to share everything that needs to be said in one blog so I will begin by simply letting you know about a few facts that go way back in history…

Let’s start by talking about a human’s blood pH level. If you will remember from your high school biology class, the pH scale measures the hydrogen ions in the blood using a numeric scale ranging from 0 – 14. The term “pH” stands for Potential for Freeing Hydrogen ions. This action results in how much oxygen is actually carried throughout our blood to supply all parts of our bodies…Very important info here!

All of our blood pH levels should measure between 7.35 and 7.45. If a person’s pH falls below 7.0, one is considered acidic (not enough oxygen in blood for optimal health). If the pH level is greater than 7.0, it is considered basic or alkaline.

Just as algae cannot grow in a swimming pool that has the proper pH level, it is believed that disease will not grow in an alkaline body… Or should I say, in my opinion, it is much less likely… We all know there are no guarantees in this life except we are born into this world and we will all leave this world one day…

If I may quote Dr. Arthur Guyton, “The cells of a healthy body are alkaline while the cells of a diseased body are acidic.” So you may be wondering, “How do I make sure my body is alkaline?”

Fortunately, this is not very hard to do! It is all about educating yourself on the proper foods and water that you consume. It is about taking care of yourself. Environmental factors, such as soaps, shampoos, lotions, air freshers, detergents, etc. may also play a role in contributing to acidity. It is about being aware of what you are eating, drinking and activities you are doing each day.

We have a couple of pages on our site – Alkalinity Matters and Healthy Hydration – that will give some great examples of foods to shop for when you are making your grocery list. Farmers Markets are the best. Anytime you can eat local home grown foods, you are eating the best you can.

Always drink plenty of the cleanest and purest water you are able to get your hands on. So many people underestimate the importance of healthy water. Mineralized Alkaline water is best. Ideal water consumption is one half your body weight in ounces. This may seem like a lot but it is really easy to get this water into your system daily with a few adjustments to your routine. I will share a couple of tips with you in the next paragraph.

Drink water with your meals. Exchange that afternoon soda for a nice cool refreshing bottle/glass of mineralized alkaline water. You will be surprised how quickly your energy level picks up and stays with you.  You will begin feeling better. True hydration in simply the best thing for you! You can go 3 weeks without food but only 3 days without water! So just how important do you think good water is for you?

I will leave you with this quote from Maya Angelou, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”

Until next time…

XOXO,

Marlene
